I’m Alive On Diamonds

Sup everyone, here is the opener for a new DJ on the scene, Young Stussy. He needs some feedback, so we were more than happy to oblige.

Alright, let’s break it down from start to finish. Press PLAY and follow along!

Right off the bat the vocals and music do not work together. Kate Elsworth needs to be played to a slower beat. Her vocals aren’t energetic enough for the beat that follows and thus is an inappropriate start. Then, the editing at :40…ouch. It is so obvious that these were all cut and pasted one after another.

But that’s just the beginning, trust me it gets better :)

Once Drake kicks in with that deep bass, the song becomes banging. I do like the little essence of Diamonds in the background. It kind of makes it seem like they are singing to each other…yet the lyrics seem to have moments where they battle pretty hard for the spotlight. Just as a word of advice for future mashes, make sure that the lyrics have a reason to be there. For instance at 2:02, there should only be music there. This is a moment for the musical solo…not to have this slightly audible annoyance in the background talking about diamonds in the sky…so take her out there. Another time this happens is at 4:05.

After that… the mash stays in the positive. Great beat, fun to dance to, has some great drops and climaxes.

A suggestion for future mashups. Remember that every moment is supposed to lead the listener to think one thing is coming and then to turn us on our head with a new, BETTER sound. Whether this inclines vocal battles, complementary progressions, or just something totally new and unexpected direction, each moment has to leave us on the edge of our seat wanting more. There are plenty of cases in here where the music does justice to the mashup, but of the aforemetioned problems above, I suggest tweaking and focusing on limiting those “mistakes”. Who knows, maybe you have stumbled on to the next big craze, but I doubt it. Sorry.

Overall I approve of this mashup. I listened to it and was engaged at every moment, just sometimes it was like someone put some lemon on my tongue and gave me that “bitter face”.

Keep practicing, keep mashing, bring us the new age of music!

Feel Good

Here is a sweet mashup of Who Is Ready To Jump, Rage, and Nova brought to you from Kognitiv. You want to get your party started off right, this is the one for you. This mashup is all about high energy and fast beats. I am loving these instrumental mashups that I am getting lately. This one is by far one of the most awesome songs I have heard in weeks.

I have to say, my favorite part is at 1:28. That drop is nasty as fuck. I love the fact that the music cuts out to just the single tone strikes as well. That is sick.

After hearing this mashup, I know I am ready to jump. Lets kick up the party another notch.

Euphoric – DJ Tuto

Check out this awesome full length EP. Brought to us by DJ Tuto, this EP brings both amazing musical rhythm as well as enviable DJ skills.

While this is not a live play, unfortunately, this studio recording is still awesome. There are 7 tracks. Each track has something new and interesting and the music ranges from Adele to Eminem. Not the biggest spectrum, but you at least have some variety.

To critique this mashup list a little, I do find myself struggling with the volume. There are times where I think the music needs to be, mainly, louder. Maybe I just get so into it that I want to be blown away. I just feel like I am constantly turning up my headphones to hear the music better. Maybe it is just me, but I just thought I would throw that out there.

Now, just as a side note, my favorite mix of the entire EP is “We’ll Be Coming Back”. While it is not the song with the most plays “so far”, it just seems to pull at the human heart strings. Its a song you can get into and a song that most people will be able to cry as well as dance to. Its a fantastic symphony of sounds.

Great mix my friend, I enjoyed every minute!

Programme Chicka Wow Wow

Check out this mashup from Brosef-Stalin. I find this mashup to be extremely entertaining. Lil Wayne, Mike Posner, and Breakbot all combined into one is quite the combination.

Now I am not going to sit here and say that it is perfect, honestly it has some errors, but I feel like they can be over looked for much of the mashup.

The most obvious error, and probably the only one that anyone should care about, is that the vocals of Lil Wayne do not combine well at all with the way the music tone. His vocals are very pitchy and don’t really work with the music.

Now, this is pretty much negated by the music and the way the lyrics are combined together. This is a genuinely interesting mashup. Good stuff.

Save Little Whistle Talks Tonight

Check out this awesome 3 artist mashup! In this song we have a combination of Of Monsters & Men, Flo Rida, and Eagle Eye Cherry. This mashup is extremely well done. It is upbeat, fast paced, intricate, and interesting.

No matter how many times I listen to this song, I still feel like I am surprised at the direction that the music goes, which in my opinion, is how a mashup should make the listener feel.

So congratulations DJ Dumpz, you have created something that I feel is perfectly done. Good job!

Just A Good Feeling

Check out this fucking great mashup! Yeah, it may be a little heavy with the Adele, but the use of Eminem makes up for it.

What I really like about this mashup is that there is a good combination of genres. Adele is singing about god knows what, while Eminem just hits us all with his famous comedic raps. The choice to use Eminem makes this mashup all around fun and exciting.

Now, I would have have minded the famous little break down from “Good Feeling” to be played without Eminem’s lyrics over it. I just feel like that piece of music shines so well, it doesn’t need assistance from a vocalist.

Other than that, everything blends and flows perfectly well with each other. One of the most exciting mashes out there!
